About the event
The Gravity Sessions presents a core ensemble of musicians and an interpretive dancer - the "Hereafter Ensemble" - in an impromptu collaboration with spoken word artists.
The Hereafter Orchestra consists of local improvisational musicians Hunter Lefevbre, Miles Plummer, Edward Mitchell and Steve Kerr. These musicians are invested in the cultural growth of Portland, ME, working as performers in a wide array of genres and styles across New England, while also working as educators in the greater Portland area.
Interpretive Dancer: Sharoan Cohen
Sharoan dances the patterns and rhythms of life. Listening to and engaging with quiet conversations happening in, with and to the body. The ensemble will improvise with two featured spoken word artists per session. Each featured artist will have the stage for 15 minutes. This will be followed by an open mic that extends performances to the end of the evening. Each open mic spoken word artist is provided accompaniment for one piece limited to three minutes or less. Prior to their time at the mic, the spoken word artist indicates the mood and/or genre of sound that interests them. Examples: Smooth Jazz, Rock, Country, a sultry summer evening, winter night, storm warnings, etc. The Hereafter Ensemble begins and the spoken word artist segues into sound.
